Emma Brown Wins National Scholarship

Emma Brown, a Cleveland High School student and daughter of partner Thom Brown, has been awarded one of 650 National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarships (NSLI-Y).  The scholarship, funded by the U.S. Department of State, enables Emma to study Chinese in China for the summer.  The goal of the program is to spark a life-long interest in foreign languages and to develop young Americans with the skills necessary to advance international dialogue.  Emma, second from left on the bottom row, is pictured with fellow students in Beijing.

Legal Assistant, Brenda L. Piplovick, was elected President of NALS of Portland, which is the local chapter of the tri-level organization for the enhancement and education of legal support staff.  The local chapter, with 90 members, was established in 1955.

The Regional Management Council of the Association of Legal Administrators elected Denise Doherty, CVK's Executive Director, as one of four officers for Region 5, which encompasses Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba.
